How to Run Away

I’ve been meaning to make this since I saw him play in late-September but have only now had the time to finish it. Slow Magic was one of the most exciting shows I’ve ever been to, largely for how interactive of an event it was. The loud, thumping sounds of his homemade drum kit goes a long way to captivating the audience but Slow Magic fed off the room’s energy in an inexplicably unique way.

His small drum broke halfway through his set, prompting him to tear it apart rhythmically to the music that was still playing. When he tried to fix it, he was fixing on the beat. Before and after, he’d lower his largest drum down into the audience. All of it combined into a show that had a sense of… community, to it. Nearly every show I’ve been to has felt one-sided, where I am an audience watching someone perform. Slow Magic was different. The concept was largely the same but the execution was something way more connected, way more fun. It was the kind of night that makes you a fan for life.
